the art of Nicole Poko since seeing it the other day over at design milk. She freezes paint and then lets it melt, creating beautiful abstract paintings. I was so enamoured, that I immediately went and froze some paint. Then I let the kids go to town placing their paint ice cubes where they may. The melting process was really fascinating, we all had fun watching their pieces change. I think we are framing and giving to grandpa for father’s day this weekend.

urban coyote
So we live in the city. Granted, this is
Maps have been drawn, plans have made, for my city kids it doesn’t get better than this.
questions for mums
I am one of the featured mums today over at LMNOP. It is so funny to read through all of the other mother’s answers to the questions we were asked. The concensus seems to be the number one thing kids have taught us is patience. Now truth be told, my kids have taught me patience, but I’m still working out the finer points of how to put it into action. To read about more go here.
studio dreamin
Design Within Reach has some new prefab structures that have me revisiting the idea of converting our detached garage into a studio space. Maybe someday….
playground
Last year I was contacted by an amazing woman finishing up work on a documentary called The Playground. It is about the heavy and shocking, but neccesary, topic of the trafficking of children for commercial sexual exploitation. I lent some of my art to the marketing of this film that is debuting this week at the Tribecca Film Festival. The film features the artwork of the amazing Yoshitomo Nara, and is the first time he has allowed his work to be animated. Which brings me to the reason I am heading to New York in a few days. As a way to continue to bring awareness to this topic, the Nest foundation was created. In benefit of it, a gala with a silent auction featuring art from Jeff Koons, Joanne Greenbaum, Todd DiCurcio and one of my paintings is being held. I am beyond excited (and humbled and terrified) to be featured next to these amazing artists. You can go here to learn more about Playgrond and Nest.
daily inspiration
I’ve finally gotten around to updating my side panel to show the evergrowing list of blogs I enjoy stopping by. Whenever I find a new blog that I love, I get that feeling like when you find the perfect book! That’s how I felt when I saw small magazine just started a new blog. The magazine is always a treat, now I get my daily fix, as well.
yes, please….
here’s to a weekend with only sun in the forecast!

flying books
Loving these flying books in a childs room over at Cookie.
and the little gnome table is pretty fantastic, too. I had seen this guy over at CB2 and thought it might look fun on our front porch.
it’s beautiful here…
loving this image (sophie andersson via simply grove)
wild thing
The poster alone is amazing. If you haven’t seen the trailer (you must) go here. I don’t think I’ve been this excited to take the kids to a movie in a while (doesn’t hurt that I love the song by arcade fire)
green on green
It feels so nice to get out of town even if only for a day or two.
feeling inspired today by

fun project
So I saw this book making project over at ms the other day and ran out to get a few supplies to try my hand at it. I’m still working out a few kinks, but it’s really fun and relatively simple. I have some fun ideas for some future books. We are taking a big family trip this summer, so I think some trip books will be in order for the kids (and me) to fill with drawings and snapshots.
Happy Weekend!
now in the shop
I just added my counting cards to my etsy store! I took a few more photos today as the light is much better (aka not grey and rainy).
I can’t stop listening to this song. It gets me going in the morning (something that has been hard to do this week with the time change).
more yellow crush
I think this may be the summer to built a go cart. The kids love, LOVE to build stuff and hello, is this not the best inspiration one could ask for? I especially love the can headlights.
a bit of this, a bit of that…
I saw this a bit back and it has been in the back of my mind since. Isn’t is amazing? A portrait done from paper scraps. It’s only a matter of time before I sit down to try this. I’m thinking paint chips and scraps of all the class work the kids bring home…
It was done by Ian Wright for rap artist T.I.’s album cover. (via the scoop)
more valentine’s day treasures
So I had to wait to share this with you as I didn’t want John to know what I got him. I ordered an amazing one of a kind Valentine from Aubrey Trinnaman, a photographer who creates a special card just for you, incorporating your special someones name. Part of the fun is that you don’t know what you will get and she did not disappoint! It arrived as two prints with a long folded strip of images tucked inside. I can’t wait to frame it!
party prep
I need to start getting ready for my daughter’s party this weekend. We are keeping it pretty simple this year, a couple friends, a valentines tea, and a performance of Alice In Wonderland at a local theater. I’m thinking a lot of pink, red and sweet. Lots of good ideas and eye candy are to be had over at party perfect. She recently posted about an amazing 1st bday party, with a little portrait I had done of the birthday boy in the mix.
Thinking these little sweet treats will do the trick….

such a tease
We’ve had a couple gorgeous blue sky days here that have me dreaming of spring…
