You probably already saw this over at Poppytalk but I love it so much I’m posting it here. ‘Aye Jay Morano sent his third grade son Cohen’s water color paintings out into the world to be altered and added to by an impressive collection of street artists, graffiti writers and children’s illustrators.’ The book is available here. I already got mine.

Mr. or Ms. Postmaster
20×200 has the BEST shipping labels. I love the ‘Mr. or Ms. Postmaster please for the love of art do not bend!’ I need to do something like this, because apparently even though I stamp all my packages with a ‘please do not bend’ every so often, they do.
POW fest
If you live in Portland, please come out and support the film Playground, Friday as part of POW fest! You may remember me mentioning it last year here. Libby Spears, the director, has a continuing stake in the lives and issues portrayed in the film. The nest foundation grew out of the film and the need to provide support for sexually exploited children. A shelter is in the works that will “extend resources to youth throughout the United States, by developing plans for an art based shelter,” here in Portland. So please come out and support the film and shelter by showing the city our community supports it! You can learn more about the film and foundation here. Tickets available on the POW fest website.
i want these shoes
and i’ll take the view, too. I’m seeing a yellow trend in my life lately…
my view this morning
through my sons ‘prismatic’ rainbow glasses. Oh yellow and teal, you are so good together…
no wall flower here
Holly spotted these flowers yesterday apparently trying to make a statement. Several pink flowers have sprung up on a bush of yellow flowers in our yard, and they are of a completely different variety. They share the same stem/branch as the yellow ones. Strange and beautiful, no?
heart
My daughter’s best friend has been raising money for Haiti by making and selling these heart branches. So sweet don’t you think? They are fitting on many levels, not the least of which is how open kids hearts are to help others.
where art thou inspiration
I’ve been trying to work on some paintings at least a bit each day, all in various states of completion. I am realizing I usually have been working a good hour or so before I become inspired and ‘ready’ to really go at it. I’ve never really done a warm up because I only have so many hours to work before the little ones come home, at which point I become very jealous of those who have an entire day to paint. This is the main reason I put start and keep sketch book on my resolution/goal list. Maybe if I put more effort into that part of thinking/trying/experimenting stage, I will be more ready when the paint comes out. Thoughts? Do you start your day of making with a warm up?
recent acquisitions
I just purchased this great drawing from Lauren Nassef. I have been slowly buying pieces to fill a wall I have in our dining room. I can’t wait to see it in person and get it framed and hung up!
art wall
My print ‘Girl in the Yellow Suit’ is part of Art Wall’s January room. Art Wall is a virtual display space created to exhibit the artwork of independent artists. It’s approach to showing art is fun and a great inspiration for creating your own art wall.
brevity
We got surprise snow, just enough to turn our world a lovely white. The kids are still enjoying it this morning but it will likely be gone by afternoon. That is how I like snow. Enough to enjoy out the window, to indulge the kids in a snow ball fight, then no more. Life returns to its normal pace (melting puddles of snow on my floor not included). My favorite part is how even that hose over there on the side of the house that I never got around to putting away, even that looks pretty.
a seriously, seriously good mail day
worth every penny, go to uppercase to get yours!
smile
We are so doing this Christmas Day! We will be creating a ‘photo booth’ in the kitchen and I can’t wait to see the results! We did this years and years ago for my daughter’s third b-day and they are some of my favorite photos of her with all her family. I got inspired after seeing the smile booth over at Our Labor of Love photographers.
The Working Proof
I’m really excited to share that I have a print available exclusively over at The Working Proof. You may remember ‘King of the Mountain’ from earlier posts. It is now available as a limited edition of 50 prints, 8 1/2″x11″ for $35 here. Working Proof Gallery, started by the awesome Anna and Sean of Sub Studios, seeks to promote art and social responsibility. Each print is paired with a charity of the artist’s choice, to which they donate 15% of the sale of each print. I chose to pair with Victory Junction which provides ‘life-changing camping experiences that are exciting, fun, and empowering, in a safe and medically-sound environment’ for kids with chronic medical conditions or serious illness. Please go take a peek at the amazing art being sold and know a portion of each is going to support a charity!
Oh and the original painting will be posted later today in my etsy shop. It is 12″x18″and will be available for $240.
paper mache
Really loving these images from the new issue of paper mache.
before they were gone
I noticed these (flowers?) in the backyard yesterday being blown to bits by the wind storm we had and decided to save them. Aren’t they beautiful?
loving (quite obsessively)
this wallpaper
and these maps
and a big thanks to Irene over at Bloesem for the shout out this morning!
and a lot of this
The view through a window, an old sticker Ian put up that I never got around to peeling off and whole lot of rain.
beautiful mornings
I love it when my day starts with this…
I live in the city so horseback riding days also mean beautiful view days. It can’t not be a great day when it starts like this!
Book Envy
It feels a little early for this (though Target clearly disagrees), but I want this for christmas.
