Where did the week go? This weekend I have many a plan. The first being to work and work some more. I want to have everyone’s portraits in the mail this week, so I’m gathering some movies/shows/music to push through a couple of late nights. I also want to stop by this and do a little shopping. Also, we got our daughter this book for Christmas so I’ll be stopping by to get it signed!
Have a lovely weekend!
Have a beautiful weekend!
(a quick pic taken while bringing a horse in from the pasture)
All the gift guides out there got me in the mood to do a few of my own. These are things that I have come across and loved.
FOR HER (aka as things I’d feel lucky to find under the tree;)
sconce / oval cabochon ring / earthenwear pitcher / brown leather doctor bag
edit: btw I know that sconce is rather indulgent, but I’m having quite an obsession with it, so I had to add it
FOR HIM
astronomical drawings / wood headphones / to my health flask / audio lightbulb
FOR KIDDO
draw your own flip book / bank / feather clips / horse print
Happy December! Though I’m not quite ready to decorate for the holiday’s (I like to wait about a week into December), I do rather enjoy the planning. Pinterest has been a wealth of holiday inspiration this year, what did I do before it existed! When we do decorate for the holiday’s, this is what I’m going for: simple, beautiful, a bit of a scandinavian influence, and of course, the new She and Him Christmas album in the background.

I’m finding our dark days here really beautiful lately, as well as, an empty house and the quiet that comes with that.
Also, loving this video…
This time of year I become a bit scarce around here. I am working away in my studio to get portraits completed for holiday gifts and planning our own holiday. Also, I have quite a few new prints and such to add to my etsy store and plan to have some of that done Friday (along with a little print sale perhaps).
Here are a few new little treasures around our home, along with a selby film for zara featuring Lucy Chadwick. I think all of blogsphere is now completely crushing on her and her life/home etc. Personally I am dying over her coffee carafe. Seriously, I told my husband if he can find one, he will make my Christmas! Her whole home is so lovely, simple and so perfectly curated.
a few little vintage brass deer
old candles that were my grandmother’s
our new front door decal from Shanna Murray
the coveted coffe carafe and stand (oh, and those lights they have anchored to their table) By the way, I did quick google search and it seams I’m not the only one. Also her glasses seem to be causing quite the stir…

Oh, and a Happy Thanksgiving to those here in the states!!!
I had some extra business cards sitting around that I did this with last year that I wanted to try another little project with. Since I ordered them blank on one side I was able to do whatever I wanted, so I painted them! I love how they turned out.
For all my nerves, we ended up having such a great time at the horse show. As adults we don’t have many opportunities to earn a little gold trophy, so I have to admit, it was pretty fun. I honestly didn’t expect to do well, and it so wasn’t about that for me, so it was a really nice surprise. So please excuse my display of winnings, but the 8 year old in me is pretty darn happy.
My daughter also rode in the show and had her best showing yet, with a first and second place finish! She also was the one to hand out the ribbons for my class, so it was a pretty perfect mother/daughter day.
I’ve been MIA this week, working on portraits and trying to psyche myself up (and not out) for my first horse show this weekend. It’s just a casual show at the stable I ride at, but I am nervous as anything. Wish me luck!
Here were some of my favorite pins this week:
painting in high heels, gotta love (pinned here)
using this image as inspiration for a simple but lovely holiday (pinned here)
fell in love with these beautiful grey sheepskins (via here)
oh to look this calm and confident while cantering with no saddle (confession: I hate, HATE riding with no stirrups, especially at the canter, which unfortunately is a regular part of learning to ride)

This morning when I took my son in for his flu shot I accidentally dated my signature as being October. I am still a bit perplexed on how it got to be November so quickly! Any how, I will be back to regularly posting soon, I’ve been working on portraits and trying to do a little blog/website clean up (sooo time consuming).
In the meantime how fantastic is this cake?
with prints coming soon…
and one still in progress…

Halloween wears me out…
We have a crazy weekend this week, followed by Halloween. So all in all should be a crazy three days. Add to that my car died and they can’t even look at it until next week. sigh. So to combat the crazy, here are some pretty and inspiring things I saw this week…
My favorite moment when starting a new painting is after I’ve put some undercoats on the canvas and have roughly sketched out what I want to paint. I love to look at a painting like this and sometimes find it hard to move on to the next step. At that moment, there are so many possibilities before the work begins. Here is a large painting at that perfect point. (kinda hard to see the sketches though, sorry) Tomorrow I’ll starting messing it up so I can work it back to a point I like again!
Here’s hoping you have a lovely weekend! I am chaperoning a ‘girls night’ at my daughter’s school (seems like everyone I talk to had a universally horrible middle school experience, me included). I also am itching to paint and work on a horse costume. As in a costume for a horse. Good times!
Here were my favorite pins this week:
This made me laugh because I pretty much always have paint on my hands, and the day I saw this I had stepped in some as well
via ink and wit
in lust with these chairs (via bodie and fou)
my toes need these slippers this winter (via toast)
some quick shots of some new paintings that are in the works…
I was thrilled to see my print in the beautiful nursery of Matt and Megan last week via a cup of jo! It so fun to see where my art ends up after it is sent off, especially when it ends up in a lovely space amongst such good company.
We made the trek to find the perfect pumpkins this weekend to one of my favorite places in the Portland area, Sauvie Island. I could live there and be happy. Pumpkins were found, caramel apples were had and half of Portland was there to enjoy the blue skies.
It has been perfectly fall here. I’ve pulled out the candles and even put a fire on a few times! Here are my favorite pins this week:
an amazing looking chocolate caramel tart (via pennyweight via maybee) originally gourmet traveller
loving these black closet doors (via Abbey Nova) originally emmas design blog
