new portraits!

I have had many requests recently to do portraits similar to the pieces in my etsy shop.  So I decided to do just that!  If you’re interested, go take a peek at my website for more ordering info.  Each painting is based on a submitted photo, is done in acrylic on canvas and mounted to a beautiful bamboo panel.  Right now I am offering them in two sizes, 12″x12″ and 12″x18″.  These would make amazing holiday gifts (in fact the one of the three little girls below is just that for my brother and sister-law, ssshhh!).  They do need several weeks to complete, so please order asap.

working weekend

I have a full plate this weekend, lots of things to finish up before heading out of town for a few days.  (grown-ups only road trip, woohoo!)  There are two new projects I’m working on, one I can share soon, the other I am geekily thrilled by that probably won’t see the light of day for at least a year.  I need to ask, as I hate not sharing and I’m horrible at keeping secrets.  Anyway, hope you have a wonderful weekend!  The weather here is perfect for the productivity and testing out my new fallish colored tape (think rain, rain, and little rain for good measure).

king of the mountain

Do you remember this post showing a painting I had just started?  Well here it is done!  It changed quite a lot and I had to fight with it a bit, but those are the ones I usually end up liking the most.  It will be available soon.

Surprise balls

The easter bunny brought the kids surprise balls a few years ago and I loved the concept but had sorta forgotten about them until I saw this post over at Uppercase this week.  Brilliant.  So while we were at the craft store the other day the kids found the cutest little wind up toys and my first thought was that they would be perfect in a surprise ball.  The hunting down of all the little treasures was probably the most fun.  Here are my finished surprise balls, now making their way to my three cute neices.  Hope they like them!  You can buy yourself one here, and they look to be very generously layered with goodies.surprise-balls.jpg

pieces making up the whole

I helped myself to generous quantities of paint chips this weekend and had some fun.  You might remember me mentioning this amazing portrait a while back and I finally sat down to give it a go.  It was SO much fun and I’m really happy with how it turned out.  Now I need to do one of my daughter…paperportrait.jpgpaperportraitdetail.JPG

coming soon…

I will be adding some new prints (and originals!) to my etsy store next week!  These paintings were created as part of a fun project I have been working on for small magazine.  Can’ wait to share!

redo

So just to keep things interesting, as one can never have to much to do, I started a little home project the other night.  I was never completely happy with the wood boxes we use as drawers (seen here).  I had previously covered them in wallpaper.  I took that off and have started covering them in cut out fabric (actually linen book cloth).  So far I really like the look.stencil21.jpgstencil.jpg

Currently obsessed with

the art of Nicole Poko since seeing it the other day over at design milk.  She freezes paint and then lets it melt, creating beautiful abstract paintings.  I was so enamoured, that I immediately went and froze some paint.  Then I let the kids go to town placing their paint ice cubes where they may.  The melting process was really fascinating, we all had fun watching their pieces change.  I think we are framing and giving to grandpa for father’s day this weekend.meltingpaint2.jpg

Monday, monday

The days are beginning to blend together now that we don’t have a school schedule to follow.  Luckily, J has the week off, so I’m trying to get lots done while I have the chance.  With father’s day orders to finish, I definitely needed the help.  I also added some new prints to the shop this morning, so please take a look!circlegirlorange1blohpost.jpg

schools out

It is now officially summer.  Can.  Not.  Believe. It.  This year they each filled a page of notebook paper with their favorite things about the year and we scanned, colored, and printed them on beautiful paper, to give to their teachers.  Each was them of course signed by the artists.schoolyear.jpgendyearart2.jpgmy favorite feature is ‘resus’ (otherwise known as recess).

Lots of new stuff over at my etsy store today.  I have been making like mad.  All of these pieces and many more of my originals will be available at Tilde, starting June 5.  I will let you know more as it gets closer, but if you’re a Portlander, please come join me!

getting down to it

I recently figured something out about myself.  The more I have on my plate the more inspired I am.  This seems so counterintuitive doesn’t it?  The more I have to do, the more I want to do!  Good though, I suppose.  I am getting ready for a couple shows over the next few months (more on those soon!), working on portraits, and suddenly feel the need to start some new work.

Here is a piece I finished several months ago and will be offering as a print soon.

new portraits!

In time for mother’s day or any day.  I wanted to share these sweet, simple (and totally affordable) sketch portraits.  I hand draw the portrait based on a submitted photo and digitally place it on an old book page (I love the color and texture this adds).  They are then printed on gorgeous Hahnemuhle Museum Etching paper.  They will be available in two sizes, 8″x10″($35) and 13″x19″($50).  I love, love these, especially in white frames.  I’m thinking a whole wall in our bedroom would look just right with these.  These will be available starting tomorrow on both my website and etsy.  I hope you like them!
