new work and a request

Here’s another new painting in my ‘bathers’ series.  It seems particularly appropriate, as it is ridiculously hot here.

And I have a request, pretty, pretty please vote for my friend Karen to win a week at a surf camp.  To say she is an inspiration does not do her justice.

black and white

I love Amy Ruppel’s new work available over at artstream .  The images are hand-etched into a panel covered in black wax. Those lines are then filled with white oil paint.  The effect is simple but dramatic, and the old frames they come in are lovely, as well.  I couldn’t resist and picked up a small piece, can’t wait to see it in person!

the sketchbook project

I came accross the sketchbook project and thought I’d share.  Their tag line is that its like a concert tour but with sketchbooks.  Anyone can participate (for $25).  You pick a theme and are sent a sketch book to fill!  The completed books will then tour the country next year and eventually will enter into the permanent collection of The Brooklyn Art Library, where they will be barcoded and available for the public to view.  Fun concept, no?

the bathers

I’ve had this series running around my head for a year now and have finally started working on it.  Here is one of the first in ‘the bathers’ series (just in time for the sun)!

morning mantel

mantel.jpg

My mantel right now is home to a painting in progress and a flower to try and brighten my day.  Just out of view, the sick kid on the couch, sigh.   (you should hear the commentary from my kids when I put up an in progress piece to look at, ‘he doesn’t have hands,’  ‘what are they doing?!’ and on and on :)

mirror face

I recently saw the work of Angela Fama over at the Jealous Curator and think her work is fascinating.  In the first photo she had her subjects face the camera straight on. She then left the room and had them look in a mirror and signal when they thought they looked best (the second photo).  They all did the same thing, the same thing I do in that parting last mirror check.  Do you do it?

friday, friday

Thoughts as we head into a three day weekend:

weekend doesn’t quite mean the same thing when you work for yourself (my boss is a slave driver)

I think I’m the only one in Portland not sick of the rain (it means I have an excuse not to be out weeding our yard)

Hoping I have an excuse to go to New York soon (check out this amazing installation piece in the elevators of the Standard Hotel by Marco Brambilla) sigh

happy weekend

show pics

You may remember me sharing some paintings I did for a show called Story of a Secret State in Australia.  It seeked to illustrate the horrendous human rights violations taking place in North Korea.  Courtney was kind enough to send me some pics of the show, so fun to see my work there, even if I couldn’t have been.

new old toy

So I was doing my usual blog reading this morning when I saw this post on Victorias blog about through the view finder photography.  After clicking through to the view finder tutorial  link, I looked over at my shelf and realized, hey I have an old kodak duaflex, previously used only as decoration.  I made a very rough light blocker and tried a few.  I am so excited with the results I think I will make a light blocker contraption that takes me more than five seconds to put together.  No doubt I will be doing more of these soon.

finally, in the shop!

I finally added some giclee wrapped canvas prints to my etsy store.  If there is a painting that you don’t see that you’d like as a canvas print, just let me know and I can create a special listing for you!

I’m back

Thanks to everyone who stopped by this weekend and said hi, so fun to meet everyone!  I am still trying to get back to my normal productive state (and passing out while having blood drawn today did not help!).  BUT I recently had my 1,000th sale in my etsy shop so to thank everyone for supporting me and my shop, I will be including this fun little mini photo booth print free with every etsy purchase from now through the weekend!

I’m just finishing up getting everything ready to take over to Crafty Wonderland for this weekend.  If you’re in Portland please come by, there are some really amazing vendors.  I will have a ton of original paintings, prints, sets of my counting cards, giclee canvas prints and these cute little ‘photo booth’ prints!

another newbie

Here’s another recently completed painting (really love this one).  I’m itching to do one similar to this but on a much larger scale.  Tomorrow I will have prints of all the new paintings in my shop!

replenished stock

A much needed package arrivied today with some more postcards.  I have been waiting patiently for them to zig zag accross the country, be delivered to the wrong side of the country and then finally arrive.  I now also have these nice little bonus prints to be included with each order,  I just love his crooked tie!

New Paintings

Here are some more recently completed paintings.  I still have 3-4 I need to complete and then plan to add prints of all to the shop by the end of the week.  I need to sit down and do all the scanning, sizing, printing involved with that.  The originals will be at Crafty Wonderland next week!  I am almost ready for that and have a couple fun things to share as it gets closer.

My Monday View

Here are two small peeks at some new paintings.  I have a sick boy on the couch, but have managed to work on a few things today.  My goal for the week:  to finish up several portraits I am working on, as well as these new paintings.
