I now have some paintings up at the incredibly lovely Tumbleweed on NE Alberta Ave!
at another piece I hope to have completed soon. I feel like a bit of a tease, but I want to have more completed before I share this new project. (hopefully very soon!)
I am honored to be part of an amazing fundraising effort to benefit Japan.
HEARTS + HANDS is a community effort organized by Lynn Russell of Satsuma Press. What has happened and is happening in Japan is heartbreaking – and we believe there are ways, both big and small, to help. This is what we are able to do – from the heart, made by our hands.
In 48 hours, fifty independent artists and studios have agreed to donate prizes for the raffle – and that list is still growing. Raffle tickets are for sale now here for $10 each.
100% of the proceeds from the HEARTS + HANDS raffle will be donated to relief efforts in Japan in the aftermath of the March 11th earthquake and tsunami.
I saw this on pinterest and it made me laugh, thought I’d share.
Tomorrow night I will be at Tilde for the opening of my show 6-9pm, 7919 SE 13th Ave!

I am in a happy place (thank you hot bath, glass of wine and a stack of magazines)
looking forward to hanging my show at Tilde tomorrow
loving working on work (portraits and other commissions)
happy to say I’d still say ‘I do’ 14! years later (and jealous of all the great resources out there for brides these days. I’d totally go for a dress by Elizabeth Dye if we were to do again)
living for my new project and sharing it with you (though a bit nervous as it is such a departure for me artistically. here’s another peek!)
Maybe because it’s the end of winter, I don’t know, but lately I’ve been feeling meh. Of course having a sick kid last week and then subsequently catching said sick kids’ virus didn’t help, but it’s getting frustrating. Any great inspiration pick me ups out there? Since I don’t have a machine that I just turn on to put out paintings, I can either force my self to push through it and hope good work comes out the other side, or let myself feel through it (and hope customers are patient) until that energy and inspiration comes back. I usually do a bit of both as I tend to go through these cycles a couple times a year. I also know that the pendulum will swing back and new work will come, my passion will again get ignited and a ton of great stuff will come out of it. Until then, thoughts? Do you experience similar cycles in your life?
Hi all! I have a sick kiddo at home today so I’ll be keeping it brief. But, I wanted to share an event I will be taking part of in a few weeks here in Portland, RAW. It’s February 17th at the Cassanova Ballroom. It will feature a film screening, musical performance, fashion show, art gallery, performance art and a featured hairstylist and makeup artist. I’d love it if you could make it! Tickets are $10 and you can purchase them on the website under my profile here. It looks like it will be a fun night, I hope to see you there!
Just popping in to let you know I added ‘Night Swim’ and ‘Blue Swimmer’ in the 13″x19″ size to my etsy shop!
I finally got around to putting some more of my ‘mini’ prints in my etsy store. Now I’m off to do some more work and go for a ride, see you next week.
Have a great weekend!
I’m smitten with this lithograph of an odd little man I recently got on ebay.
I recently came across this drawing my son had done of a horse. I love it! I had planned on framing it up but then I got an idea. I wanted to see it large and BOLD, so I took a huge canvas I had and replicated his drawing in paint. I tried to stay true to his design and just add a little punch to the lines. I love how it came out, what do you think?
BTW, he was beyond thrilled
We’ve had a couple bitter cold days and a nice layer of ice this morning. Here’s a painting (my warm up for the day) and the view that inspired it.
I spotted one of my little ‘Boy With the Orange Bow Tie‘ postcards on Victoria’s peek into her home yesterday! Go here to see more drool worthy corners of her lovely home.
I recently got an email from Hannah Stephenson letting me know about a poem she wrote in response to one of my paintings. Love that. Love how ideas can morph and change and grow from one thing to the next. A photo that inspires and idea, the inspires a photo, that inspires a painting, that inspires a poem and on and on. Hannah has a blog, The Storialist, go check it out!
Stethoscope
Stethoscope
There, there, the stethoscope says
to the one being scoped, measured.
The breath-warmed diaphragm rests
near your shoulder blade like a palm
or pushes into the skin over your heart,
pledging loyalty, longing. I solemnly
vow that this is my body, these sounds.
Struck piano wire and typewriter key,
spinning dial to a combination lock
and roulette wheel. Clicking turn signal.
Deep breath, the doctor instructs us.
Then, breathe normally, as you would
usually. To see inside the sarcophagus
of the body, we observe survival: oxygen,
heartbeat. We can take turns examining,
listening. Climb up on the table next to me.
Trust me, I’m a professional. Let me plug
my ears with the clamor inside of you
Hi, did you have a nice holiday? I have slept in the last two days (heaven). I am easing back into the work week, I think step one will be cleaning my studio which currently looks like a small tornado did it in.
I have a guest post today over at one of my all time favorite blogs (!) The Jealous Curator. So if you are curious what artist I am jealous of, hop on over there!
I just added several of my ‘little paintings’ to my etsy shop!
