on motivating, making and enjoying
Sometimes I have to remind myself this when I’m dragging my feet to get down to my studio. As silly as it sounds/is some days the hardest part is walking down the stairs and just STARTING. After that, it comes together. Maybe I should keep my coffee maker down there, that would do the trick! How do you motivate yourself?

shop update!
I decided to set a date for my shop updates (I needed a deadline to give me a push). So, Monday, October 1st I will be putting new work, originals and prints, in my etsy and floodline shops! As it gets closer, I will post some of the pieces.
Hope you’re having a great start to your week!
pop up shop
If your are in Portland and are looking for something amazing to do this weekend, I recommend the xoxo festival. It ‘includes a (sold-out) conference with truly impressive speakers, an indie arcade, film screenings, fabulous local food carts and beer/coffee tastings, live music, and a 3-day market with a tightly-curated list of the best of Portland’s arts and tech scenes, sharing and selling their work.’
My prints will be available at Summer Allen’s (aka Design is Mine) pop up shop along with some other incredible artist’s work. The market/main event is located in the Yale Union building at 800 southeast 10th avenue.

pictures of paintings of pictures
I have grand plans for my ‘quiet’ week. I’m not usually one to work late at night, but recently I have been loving the quiet nights around here. So this week my evenings are going to be about making new work. Here’s a sneak peak…
p.s. I haven’t been this excited about a new series of work in a long time (yay!)
Girl Crush (belated)
What to say about girl crush?! I felt so honored to host such a great day, met some pretty inspiring people and ate delicious little cupcakes. What more can you ask of a day? You can read more about our PDX girl crush, here and here!
I spy…
One of my large paintings was featured in the recent Rejuvenation catalog!
great news!
I have some exciting news! The girl crush tea party art workshop I am hosting in June has a new price! Due to the generosity of our sponsors, Elephants Deli and Plywerk, it is now only $175. I am beyond excited after reading about the success of the first event in San Francisco. I hope you can join us!!!
Red
My husband and I recently went to the play Red and I so enjoyed it. It is ‘an intense bio-drama of the renowned modern artist (and Oregon-raised) Mark Rothko, Red earned critical laurels in its New York run last season. Set in the 1950s, when Rothko was commissioned to create a series of large pieces of art for the new Four Seasons Restaurant, Red tackles big questions about art—what it takes to create it, and where it belongs in our world.’
The Portland Art Museum currently has an exhibit of Rothko’s work that runs until the end of May so I need to make my way over there, as well.

a questionable spring
Spring in the northwest is a fickle friend. It teases you and leads you on, breaks your heart and then redeems itself. It’s also my favorite time of year here. In the past few weeks we’ve had snow but also wonderful sunny days, with the usual rainy spells thrown in for good measure.
I did this (very un-springlike painting) a few months back. I was experimenting with creating an acrylic painting version of one of my floodline pieces.
Real Simple
I am so thrilled to be included in the March issue of Real Simple magazine!
The Goodwin Project
This film fascinates me. “A young family leaves their home on Kauai. They nomadically trace continents to places where waves meet their edges, envoys of aloha. It is what they will learn, what they bring others, what they will pass on to their children in the hyper-expanded classroom, the lab of direct being; a legacy passed from a father to his family.” I would love to see it when it is available. You can follow their adventure on their website The Goodwin Project.
Monday
I’ve taken over our dining room to enjoy the sunny day. This is the result so far…
