getting down to it

I recently figured something out about myself.  The more I have on my plate the more inspired I am.  This seems so counterintuitive doesn’t it?  The more I have to do, the more I want to do!  Good though, I suppose.  I am getting ready for a couple shows over the next few months (more on those soon!), working on portraits, and suddenly feel the need to start some new work.

Here is a piece I finished several months ago and will be offering as a print soon.

new over at poppytalk

The new poppytalk handmade market is up with some wonderful items for mother’s day (it’s May 10!).  So I thought I’d pick some of my favorites, my own and others, that would make really lovely gifts.  There’s still time to order a portrait, if you’d like it by mother’s day please contact me soon and mention when you’d like it by.

back to work

I have been radio silent the last few days enjoying the summerlike weather.  It was just too hard to motivate myself to work when it was that glorious out.  Now the clouds are back so I am back at it.  I am working on some portraits and want to finish up several new pieces I started a while back.  I’m really good at starting new paintings and then become a foot drager when it comes to finishing.

We had a nice visit with family this past weekend, visited the chinese garden downtown and had some tea.  It was a banner weekend for my picky eater, he made, ate and loved sushi and tried and loved tea!

happy weekend!

The portrait sketch print is now available on my website and at my etsy store!  We have family coming to town later today for the weekend and they’re bringing some gorgeous weather with them (think sun!).  Have a wonderful weekend!

new portraits!

In time for mother’s day or any day.  I wanted to share these sweet, simple (and totally affordable) sketch portraits.  I hand draw the portrait based on a submitted photo and digitally place it on an old book page (I love the color and texture this adds).  They are then printed on gorgeous Hahnemuhle Museum Etching paper.  They will be available in two sizes, 8″x10″($35) and 13″x19″($50).  I love, love these, especially in white frames.  I’m thinking a whole wall in our bedroom would look just right with these.  These will be available starting tomorrow on both my website and etsy.  I hope you like them!

little adornment

How sweet are these little bracelets done by Emma Cassi.  Oh and the packaging just feels like spring.  She is so talented, her blog is one of my very favorite stops.

wild thing

The poster alone is amazing.  If you haven’t seen the trailer (you must) go here.  I don’t think I’ve been this excited to take the kids to a movie in a while (doesn’t hurt that I love the song by arcade fire)

I love seeing where my prints and paintings go to live after they are sent off.  So I was so glad when Jennifer Johner sent me this picture of how she hung her little bunny print.  I love all the pieces she has gathered together.  You can see more of her lovely home at her blog.

Happy Spring!

It is my favorite season.  What’s not to like, flowers, warmer days, green grass, flowers…So I was so excited when Holly and Ez invited me to create a desktop wallpaper for Kindred.  Go and download a beautiful piece of art to greet you at your computer (free!).  Here is the piece I created and it will also be available as a print in my shop.

now in the shop

I just added my counting cards to my etsy store!  I took a few more photos today as the light is much better (aka not grey and rainy).

I can’t stop listening to this song.  It gets me going in the morning (something that has been hard to do this week with the time change).

as easy as

123…

My new 123 cards are here!  I had so much fun with these guys.  It had been a bit since I had drawn animals, so this little crew makes me smile.  It is a set of 12 5″x8″ cards (o to 10 and a card with all the numbers).  They are beautiful with a soft finish and come packaged in a chocolate brown box with bakers twine and mini clothes hangers.  I think they would be absolutely adorable in a little ones room.  I will be adding these to the shop and my website in the next few days.

New art

Hi all, and happy Monday to you!  I just added a couple a little originals to my shop, these are 6″x6″ each and are available for $45.   Also, I wrote a quick post about them over at the Handmade artist blog.  If you haven’t checked it out, the Handmade Artist is a community artist blog written by the participants of Poppytalk Handmade (an online handmade & vintage goods marketplace).

a bit of this, a bit of that…

I saw this a bit back and it has been in the back of my mind since.  Isn’t is amazing?  A portrait done from paper scraps.  It’s only a matter of time before I sit down to try this.  I’m thinking paint chips and scraps of all the class work the kids bring home…

It was done by Ian Wright for rap artist T.I.’s album cover.  (via the scoop)

lovely tuesday

Oh, how happy I am you’re not Monday!  With the Monday blahs effectively shaken off, I am ready to go work on a new project I am so excited about.  Hopefully more to come soon!  I also finished the class project for my daughter’s class.  Each child phototransferred a portion of a large image of one of the Portland bridges.  They are now all pieced together and framed.  It turned out so nicely and it feels so good to have it checked off the to do list.  Here are some pictures of the finished pieces.

more valentine’s day treasures

So I had to wait to share this with you as I didn’t want John to know what I got him.  I ordered an amazing one of a kind Valentine from Aubrey Trinnaman, a photographer who creates a special card just for you, incorporating your special someones name.  Part of the fun is that you don’t know what you will get and she did not disappoint!  It arrived as two prints with a long folded strip of images tucked inside.  I can’t wait to frame it!
